Continuous Personal and Professional Development - CPPD

The Chartered Trading Standards Institute is committed to empowering members of the profession, through CPPD. CTSI wants you to maximise your learning and development opportunities and to achieve your full potential.

Your responsibility

As a professional you have a personal responsibility to maintain your competence. Therefore you are encouraged to participate in the Continuous Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) scheme. This also helps you fulfil your obligations under the Institute’s code of conduct.

The purpose

The CPPD scheme has three complementary purposes:

  • To enable you to develop your knowledge, skills and experience for your present role and any potential future roles.
  • To demonstrate to your employer that you have planned, updated and maintained your knowledge, skills and experience in a structured manner.
  • To provide a means for your employer to demonstrate that you are professionally competent. This information is recorded in a retrievable manner.

Our responsibility

In response to this CTSI has a responsibility to invest resources in assisting you to meet these development commitments. The scheme is inclusive of all trading standards professionals. It is voluntary and is at no cost to you as a member.

Non members

Those who are not currently members of CTSI are invited to participate in the scheme (provided they fulfil the necessary requirements - see section 2 of the 2017 CPPD handbook). The annual cost for non-members is £120 (plus VAT).

The scheme is provided free of charge to members who register with us. Visit our joining CTSI page, and along with the CPPD scheme,  enjoy the various benefits that membership brings.

The CPPD handbook 2017 (PDF 340KB) is now available to download. Please note the changes in relation to form 2 (Personal development plan) and form 4 (Evidence schedule). These changes apply to all participants in the scheme.
