Two Leeds dealerships awarded Motor Trade Partnership awards for excellent customer service
West Yorkshire Trading Standards is celebrating the success of the Motor Trade Partnership after two dealerships in Leeds were awarded Excellent Customer Service Awards for 2012-2013.
The Motor Trade Partnership (MTP) was set up to work with West Yorkshire Garages in order to improve standards within the motor industry, following an increasing number of consumer complaints in relation to car sales, servicing and repairs. The scheme aims to give consumers the confidence that they are dealing with a reputable trader who has made a commitment to fair and honest practices by becoming a member of the Partnership.
For customers, choosing a garage that is a member of the Motor Trade Partnership ensures they are dealing with a trader who has committed to fair and honest practices set out by the Partnership and who are monitored by Trading Standards. Member garages display the Partnership logo, and will be able to answer questions about the scheme.
In order to be eligible for an Excellent Customer Service Award, members are rigorously audited annually and any complaints received by West Yorkshire Trading Standards are reviewed. A plaque is presented in recognition of the customer care members have provided over the preceding 12 months, which the dealerships display at the premises.
Two dealerships, Leeford Motor Company, Melbourne Street, Leeds now holds 10th consecutive awards and Motor Marque, Clayton Wood Close, received their 2nd consecutive award. These garages represent a substantial achievement in an industry which often suffers from a poor reputation for customer confidence
Not all members achieve award status, and those garages are advised where improvements need to be made. Garages consistently breaching the terms of the scheme and giving poor customer service will no longer be eligible for membership. Details of partnership members, and garages which currently hold awards can be found on the MTP website.
Graham Ford of Leeford Motor Company said: "We were asked to be part of the Partnership from the very beginning and are very proud to have 10 years consecutive Customer Service Excellence Awards. Over the years the motor trade has received bad press and poor reviews and the partnership is essential to help instil trust back in the consumer and assure them that there are trustworthy, highly skilled and award winning independent garages out there providing dealer level servicing".
Councillor, Bill Urry, Member of the West Yorkshire Trading Standards Committee, said “The Motor Trade Partnership is an excellent example of innovative working between businesses and Trading Standards that helps the consumers of West Yorkshire. Those garages that have joined the scheme are clearly making a positive statement that they hold customers in high esteem, and those receiving awards have proved this beyond doubt.”
Further details about the Motor Trade Partnership can be found at www.mtp.wyjs.org.uk. To make a complaint about any garage please contact Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 08454 04 05 06, who will pass relevant details to Trading Standards where necessary.
