Scam mail TS success

East Sussex County Council trading standards has successfully taken court action against a man involved in a misleading mass mail prize draw operation.
Julian Mills, of Stockport, was behind  the sending of 136,000 misleading mailings sent by UK Incentives & Promotions Ltd, based in Berkshire and now in liquidation.

The letters implied recipients had won £625,000  but in fact they were simply being sold a low quality watch for £20 and  a very remote chance to win the  prize in an international prize draw competition.  Some 700 complaints and enquiries were made to Consumer Direct about the company.
Mr Mills has now received a 12-month order not to send further misleading mail. The action was taken using part 8 of the Enterprise Act, and  the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations. The action was taken against Mr Mills as an accessory, as he was the marketing manager for the Company, which went into liquidation shortly after East Sussex Trading Standards threatened court action.
