The Trading Standards Institute has launched a new guide with the backing of HPI and Motor Codes Limited, to help the new motorists make better informed decisions.
Costs, legal rights and responsibilities, mechanical jargon – anyone set to sit behind the wheel for the first time is faced with a whole new world of information that may seem daunting.
On the Road – A Guide to Buying Your First Car includes chapters packed with helpful hints on
* learning to drive
* buying a car
* dealing with the most common problems or faults
* maintaining a car
* road safety
TSI’s chief executive Ron Gainsford said: 'Raising consumers’ awareness of their rights and responsibilities is very important to us and we know that young drivers remain a comparatively high risk group.
'It is with this in mind that we have launched On the Road, a leaflet which clearly sets out information that motorists need when they are buying and maintaining their car and helps them to make safe and well informed decisions on the roads.'
The booklets are available to order for 42p per copy - please phone 0845 608 9400.
100 copies have been sent to local authorities free of charge.
