TSI appoints a new vice president

Dame Deirdre Hutton, chair of the Food Standards Agency, is set to be made a vice president of the Trading Standards Institute (TSI) today (June 26).

Dame Deirdre will be officially appointed a vice president at the TSI's annual conference in Bournemouth at 1.45pm.

Bryan Lewin, chairman of TSI, will make the presentation.

Dame Deirdre is also a member of the European Food Safety Authority management board. For five years, she was chair of the National Consumer Council, having formerly chaired the Scottish Consumer Council. She has recently stood down as deputy chair of the Financial Services Authority and prior to her appointment at the Food Standards Agency, she was a member of the Better Regulation Task Force.

Bryan Lewin said: 'We are very pleased to welcome Dame Deirdre as a Vice President of TSI.

'She has been a long-term and enthusiastic supporter of the Institute and Trading Standards and a regular contributor to our annual conference and other TSI events.'

Dame Deirdre said: 'I am delighted and honoured by this appointment. The TSI is a vibrant and influential body which works tirelessly to promote and uphold professional standards.

'It is an example to us all of an organisation that makes a real difference to its members and to the general public.

'I look forward to being part of the Institute and helping through this appointment to forge even closer links between the TSI and the Food Standards Agency.'

The national Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards Conference 2008, organised by the Trading Standards Institute (TSI) - a 'must' for consumer journalists!

The TSI-hosted annual Conference and Exhibition is the leading consumer affairs and trading standards event in Europe.

Conference 2008 is being held at Bournemouth International Centre from Tuesday 24 to Thursday 26 June. The conference press office will be open from 8am on Monday 23 June (the day before the event starts) until 2pm on Thursday 26 June.

The conference is hosted by TSI chairman Bryan Lewin.

Almost 2,000 people are attending the conference, including representatives from local and central government and those interested in fair trading, representatives of business and commerce, together with consumer organisations. This makes it an ideal place for consumer affairs journalists to mingle and make contacts!
