Sustained funding of trading standards vital
Local authorities have been directly challenged in George Osborne’s Spending Review 2010.
Challenged to provide council services with less direct government funding, and a freeze on council taxes next year. At the same time they have been given far greater control of how and where they spend with less ring fencing of local authority services.
TSI chief executive Ron Gainsford says that while economic stringency is necessary it is vital that funding for trading standards is sustained for the economic growth of legitimate private business and protection of consumers vulnerable to unscrupulous rogue traders capitalising if there is less enforcement of fair trading.
