Four new Cold Calling Control Zones established in North East Lincolnshire

FOUR new Cold Calling Control Zones have been created in North East Lincolnshire, providing residents with extra protection against rogue traders and distraction burglaries.

The zones have been established in a joint scheme involving North East Lincolnshire Trading Standards, Humberside Police, Neighbourhood Watch, and Community Wardens.

The new areas cover Grafton Street and The Ridgeway in Grimsby, The Drive in Waltham, and Beatty Avenue in Scartho.

There are now 57 Cold Calling Control Zones in North East Lincolnshire.

Rogue traders and distraction burglars are known to target the most vulnerable residents in the community. But Cold Calling Control Zones help to advise and reassure residents on how to deal with unwanted people who come knocking at the door. The zones also help ward off uninvited callers with clear signage, which also indicates the contact number for Consumer Direct, which receives consumer complaints and passes them on to Trading Standards.

Councillor David Bolton, the council’s portfolio holder for community safety and neighbourhoods, said: “Cold Calling Control Zones really help local residents to protect themselves and each other from doorstep crime and distraction burglaries. Residents can keep themselves even safer by remembering to use a door chain and by checking the identification of all callers.”
