TSI looks forward to being embraced in the proposed consultation exercise pertaining to trading standards and the proposal to test its fitness and appropriateness to be a service subject to open commissioning. The TSI view is that the UK is best served by a locally based but nationally cohesive trading standards service model and we would counsel against any proposals that may put that at risk.

TSI response (PDF 111KB). TSI agrees that action is needed to combat bovine TB. It believes that, should the culling of badgers take place, only the two methods proposed (controlled shooting and cage-trapping and shooting) should be used, and then only if they are considered humane. TSI supports the strict monitoring of culling to maintain humaneness.
