Baroness Christine Crawley

Born in Wicklow, Ireland, Christine grew up in Plymouth and Devon.  She was educated in Plymouth and London, after graduating she started her career as a teacher and youth theatre leader.

 Her work with local government started with Didcot Town Council and South Oxfordshire District Council from 1979 to 1982.  She was a member of the european parliament for Birmingham East between 1984 and 1999.  In 1998 she entered the House of Lords as Baroness Crawley of Edgbaston in the County of West Midlands.  

Between 2002 and 2010 she served as government whip and spokesperson for policy areas including, foreign office, international development, defence, education, communities and local government, Northern Ireland and transport.  

She was chair of the Women's National Commission and chair, West Midlands Cultural Consortium 1999-2002. She has been a board member of Birmingham Assay Office since 2001. Christine was appointed president of CTSI in 2009.  

In her spare time Christine enjoys reading, walking and babysitting her grandchildren.
