Scambusters chief welcomes promotion chance
Scambusters project manager Steve Playle has described an invitation to this month's Construction Manager of the Year Awards dinner as a 'golden opportunity' to strengthen links with the construction industry.
The prestigious annual event will be held at the Marriott Grosvenor Hotel on London's Park Lane next Tuesday (30 October).
And, with influential and powerful figures from the construction industry in attendance, Steve Playle is keen to use the occasion to promote the Scambusters brand.
He said: 'We're always trying to emphasise how Scambusters tries to help the legitimate traders in the building trade by cracking down on the rogues and cowboys.
'So this invitation gives me a golden opportunity to network and get the Scambusters message across.'
The invitation is a by-product of the Trading Standards Institute's (TSI) engagement with Trustmark and the presence of Paul Ramsden, the deputy chief executive of TSI, on its board.
Trustmark is the award-winning scheme supported by the Government, the building industry and consumer protection groups to help the public find reliable and trustworthy tradesmen to undertake home repairs and improvements.
Paul Ramsden, who will be presenting an award during the evening, said: 'The building industry gains a tainted image from rogue traders persistently damaging consumer confidence in the Home Improvement arena.
'This event promotes excellence in building standards and therefore it is right and proper that Trustmark is there to recognise and congratulate reputable, competent builders.
'Trustmark and Scambusters protect consumers by promoting honest trustworthy businesses and removing the rogues that are so detrimental to society.'
In line with National Consumer Week (12-16 November) Trustmark will be launching its brand new consumer forum on 13 November at Berr Conference Centre, London. This will bring together consumer organisations from across the UK such as Which?, CAB and Age Concern to ensure that Trustmark reaches out and delivers to the general public. Consumer Affairs Minister Gareth Thomas MP will be officially opening the event and emphasising the value of this consumer-focussed scheme.
