Family business exhibits for half a century at trading standards conference

The loyalty of metal fabricating company Wragg Brothers has been a permanent feature of the Trading Standards Institute (TSI) conference & exhibition, with them attending every year since the three brothers established their business in 1958.

The Trading Standards Institute (TSI) paid tribute to Wragg Bros. Ltd for this tremendous contribution by marking their 50th year of attendance at the 2009 conference with a commemorative plate.

The company manufactures working standard petrol measures used by trading standards officers to check the quantity dispensed from a petrol pump. They also supply high accuracy volumetric measuring equipment to specialist metrology laboratories across the country.

Wragg Bros. Ltd remains a family business even though the original entrepreneurs Edward, Richard and William have retired.  The Essex company is now run by William's daughter Susan and Edward's son Derek.

Derek Wragg said: 'The company has been coming here for 50 years - I've personally been coming for 26 years.  We really look forward to coming every year, we are well looked after.
'I really was not expecting to receive an award at all, this is a wonderful surprise.'

Gerry Dutton, TSI's metrology lead officer, said: 'It is fantastic for TSI to have been able to welcome this company year after year - they are old friends of our profession! This year we will have the opportunity to recognise their loyalty with a well deserved award.

'Their products are essential to trading standards officers in the field, and they are the name which jumps readily into mind of all trading standards officers when standard petrol measures are considered.'

Peter Mason, chief executive of the National Measurement Office (NMO), said: 'We congratulate Wragg Bros. Ltd on 50 years of successful business and are proud to have provided calibration services to them for most of this time. We look forward to finding out what the next 50 years will bring.'
