TSI Chief Executive announces his retirement

RonGainsfordThe Trading Standards Institute (TSI) will be embracing the consumer and regulatory landscape challenges  with a change in leadership.

After 10 years at the helm, TSI’s chief executive Ron Gainsford OBE has decided to stand down on 31 March 2013, as the organisation moves into a new era of responsibilities and roles.

He said: “The world in which trading standards and TSI operate is in the midst of real and enduring change. The next five years mark the beginning of a new phase for this exceptional Institute and profession.

“We are and will be well prepared to rise to every challenge and I believe the time and climate is right to give someone else the opportunity to lead the trading standards profession and the Institute into this next exciting chapter and to new successes.

“I have these next ten months to achieve some ongoing ambitions for TSI and our unique and very special trading standards family.

“So this is not yet goodbye and I remain focussed on what we need to do together. Expect business as usual as we continue to fight the corner of trading standards professionals, consumers and honest business.

“I have been the most fortunate of individuals to have been able to do the job that I love for this past decade. There is no greater satisfaction than to lead your professional body and whoever has the good fortune to succeed me will never be short of satisfaction, professional reward and challenge.

“My colleague trading standards professionals are an extraordinary group of people and are a genuine and hugely committed force for the good. My thanks go to so many who have always offered me the friendship, goodwill and support that make my job the pleasure it is.”

Ron Gainsford was made a Fellow of the Trading Standards Institute in 1999 for his services to trading standards and awarded the OBE in 2010 for services to consumers and to business. He was given freedom of the City of London in 2008 and is a member of the World Traders livery company.
