The Chartered Trading Standards Institute works with a diverse array of stakeholders, including national and local government, and private organisations, to help influence government policy. Due to the nature of current national legislation on consumer affairs and trading standards, our policy projects are frequently varied and diverse in their focus. This reflects a multitude of issues which stem from the fact that, at present, trading standards services’ remit covers more than 250 pieces of legislation.
Our most recent major project has been developing a new Vision for the future of consumer protection in the UK. This project builds upon previous research such as the National Trading Strandards Conversation and the Workforce Survey which helped us to develop a strong evidence base that demonstrates the impact that budget and staff cuts are having upon trading standards services across the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.
In both planning and executing our upcoming policy projects, CTSI work closely with our Lead Officers whose specialist expertise in all areas of consumer affairs, enables us to identify and tackle the most pressing and urgent matters of concern in this field.
