Home warranty provider, Checkmate, first in industry to receive TSI stamp of approval

Posted 19/03/15

Consumers looking for legitimate home warranty providers that ensure consumer protections above and beyond those outlined in legislation can now turn to Checkmate.

Checkmate is the first new home warranty provider in the UK to operate a code of practice under TSI's Consumer Codes Approval Scheme (CCAS). Checkmate sponsors the Checkmate Consumer Code for Builders of Homes for Sale code. All builders and developers who provide a Checkmate new home warranty policy with their new homes for private sale are bound by the terms of the code. The code offers consumer protection for all aspects of the purchase process of a new property, from initial enquiry to customer service standards after a buyer has moved into their new home.

Baroness Christine Crawley of Edgbaston, chair of the CCAS board, said:

'We are delighted to welcome the Checkmate Consumer Code for Builders of Homes for Sale into our family of consumer codes, a hallmark for excellent consumer protection and customer service. Not only does the Checkmate Consumer Code for Builders help builders distinguish their services from those of competitors, it gives peace of mind to consumers that if something goes wrong, they will be dealt with fairly and transparently by businesses under the terms of the code.'

'We want consumers to further recognise that a business showing an approved code logo is a business they can trust.'

Not only do CCAS businesses agree to adhere to business practices that go beyond the law and better ensure consumer protections, they are also required to have a third party redress scheme in the event that a CCAS member and consumer cannot reach an agreement over a dispute.

'Checkmate is the first new home warranty provider in the UK to operate a TSI approved code,' said Paul Cooper, managing director of Checkmate. 'Our builder/developer member businesses have welcomed Checkmate’s TSI approved code; being part of a market leading initiative with a TSI approved logo is something to be very proud of.'

Trivselhus UK, a leading provider of fuel-efficient buildings is one of the first companies to receive approval for its building system under the new code.

The Trivselhus by Esh stand will proudly display a specially designed self-build home using the exceptionally thermally efficient Trivselhus Climate Shield. When dismantled, this star of the Ideal Home Show village will be rebuilt on site with a Checkmate warranty and covered by the TSI CCAS.

The new code is part of the TSI's CCAS, which has 12 sponsors and 31,572 member businesses who voluntarily agree to participate in TSI's 14 approved codes.
