BBC Radio 4's You and Yours programme wins CTSI Hero Award

BBC Radio 4's You and Yours programme was recognised by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) at its annual Hero Awards ceremony. 

The awards, hosted by CTSI at One Great George Street, Westminster, on the evening of Tuesday, October 19, recognised significant contributions to consumer protection across the UK.

The You and Yours programme was recognised for championing consumer protection stories, particularly since the first COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020. Over this period, the show covered many of the primary scams to have emerged during the pandemic, including scams themed around the NHS and vaccinations, vaccination passports, phoney health visitors and many others.

The programme has worked relentlessly to showcase issues, providing case studies and offered multiple CTSI Lead Officers the opportunity to comment and provide consumer advice on the programme.

One such CTSI Lead Officer to appear on the programme is Katherine Hart. Katherine said: "To date, I have been asked to comment on at least five occasions on the You and Yours consumer programme. The researchers are always thorough; they are always polite and always very helpful. They are keen to ensure that the consumer messages are broadcasted in a professional yet extremely relevant manner.

"Listeners will get in touch about a scam or a consumer issue; the researchers will then investigate the story getting advice from a wide range of experts. 

"I have been impressed with the diversity and scope and incredible stories they are able to highlight. The programme is fantastic in promoting awareness of all consumer issues."

CTSI Chief Executive, John Herriman, said: "For over 50 years, BBC Radio 4's You and Yours programme has been a flagship broadcast for consumer and medical issues. The programme's reporting on consumer affairs is highly thought of, and their work with CTSI's Lead Officers over the past few years has enabled the voice of experts from the profession to be heard by a national audience of over three million listeners.

"This CTSI Hero Award is long overdue for an extremely important programme that helps educate millions of consumers about their consumer rights."
