Update on the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018

The course will specifically cover the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 (PTR'S) highlighting the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) consultation (which closed in December 2023) on the PTR’s and the major changes being considered. As well as other legal requirements for advertising and selling all forms or travel and holidays.


About this Training Course


This course has been designed to provide:

  • Clarification of the current situation regarding the DMCC Act and how it may affect your operation.
  • Challenges with the laws relating to holidays and travel and the important elements you need to consider.
  • Background on the PTRs, and will it cover all sizes of tour operators, accommodation providers and guided tour operations?
  • Exemptions for some holidays and travel in the law.
  • Linked Travel Arrangements and how they differ from package holidays
  • DBTs unusual ideas in their consultation and what it means for business
  • Changes to the Insolvency Protection - a major element of the PTRs

  • Package holiday offences in the Regulations including examples of Trading Standards enforcement.
  • Online Interface Orders and the CMA.
  • Travel insurance, and can you make it compulsory?
  • Should you take notice of FCDO Advice?
  • Dynamic pricing - as highlighted in the recent OASIS tour issues
  • How the PTRs can help business with 'chargebacks' and recent 'health tourism' issues
  • Scam holiday websites, including social media.
  • ATOL, delayed, overbooked or cancelled flights (EC/UK261) highlighting 'extraordinary circumstances'.
  • Responsibility at the airport and update on the possible changes to EES and ETIAS 
  • Hotel gradings and 'meet and greet' issues and Unfair Contract Terms
  • Fake reviews, subscription contracts and holiday savings schemes.

Bruce Treloar

Bruce Treloar is CTSI's Lead Officer for Holiday and Travel Law and is regularly involved in delivering training and offering guidance to trading standards and industry. Bruce has been heavily involved with developments in the industry, liaising with the Department for Business and Trade (formally BEIS), the Department for Transport, with joint enforcers the Civil Aviation Authority and ABTA regarding potential law changes.
