James joined the Trading Standards profession in 1989 and spent many years as an operational Trading Standards Officer working with local, regional and national enforcement agencies. He led the National Trading Standards Estate Agency Team from 2014 to 2026 and has overseen various government-funded collaborative projects to improve standards in the property sector. James is a former Chair of CTSI and has served on Council since 2017 as well as previously on the Board from 2022 to 2025. He is a Fellow of the Institute, a trustee of the Trading Standards Fellows’ Charity, and a qualified coach and mentor.
