Alternative Dispute Resolution: Information for Businesses
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) can help businesses and consumers resolve disputes fairly, without going to court.
If you have an unresolved customer complaint, ADR may help you deal with the issue constructively and bring the complaint to a conclusion.
What is ADR?
ADR is a way of resolving disputes with support from an independent, impartial organisation.
It can be a practical alternative to court action, although either party can still go to court if ADR does not resolve the issue.
What should your business do?
Check whether your business:
- Already works with an ADR body
- Is required to take part in ADR
- Could choose to use ADR for unresolved complaints
If a customer asks about ADR, be clear about whether your business will take part.
If you agree to use ADR, choose a CTSI-accredited provider that covers your sector and follow its complaints process.
