Join our Lead Officer team!

CTSI is looking for people with expertise in some of our key specialities to join our Lead Officer team.

CTSI Lead Officers are instrumental in helping us to shape and influence policy, contribute to national debates, and promote the work of Trading Standards. Our Lead Officers have raised awareness, developed policy, and shaped legislation on a variety of issues from online marketplaces, tackling underage vaping, raising food standards, and much more.

We are now looking to recruit new Lead Officers to support our work and would welcome applications. If you have in-depth knowledge and expertise in a particular subject area, as well as being interested in politics and policy making, we would love to hear from you! This is an exciting opportunity to be part of national and local policymaking, further the Trading Standards profession, and help create a fairer world for both consumers and businesses.

What does it mean to be a Lead Officer?

Our Lead Officers are highly respected experts in their field - providing specialist knowledge to the Institute and externally. They provide their time on a voluntary basis and have a particular in-depth knowledge and understanding of specific areas of trading standards work. On a day-to-day basis our Lead Officers are involved in a range of different activities, from helping CTSI to develop policy, responding to major Government consultations, influencing legislation, and representing us externally with key stakeholders, politicians and in the media.

At the moment, CTSI has about 40 different Lead Officers, acting as Subject-Matter Experts across the 25 specialist areas. Here, two of our current Lead Officers - Jemma Cox and David Mackenzie - talk about their work and what it means to them to be a Lead Officer.
