Tobacco Control Campaign Hub

Trading standards contributes to the improvement of the health of local communities with the re-positioning of public health back into local government in April 2013. These changes were brought about in response to the 'significant challenges' in public health and the rising costs of preventable illness to the NHS.

Local authorities have a duty to promote the health of their population. Trading Standards have a considerable contribution to make in terms of reducing smoking prevalence through a range of tobacco control activities, tackling obesity through the maintenance of food standards and informative nutritional labelling and work around reducing the impact of alcohol consumption in local communities.

Trading standards is also engaged in tackling illegal money lending and reducing the impact of the distress caused by rogue traders and scams.
