Interested in becoming an approved ADR body?

Since October 2015 traders, who have an unresolved dispute with a consumer, have been required, to give the consumer the details of an Approved Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) body and to indicate whether they are willing to use them or not.

Relevant legislation:

• The Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer Disputes (Competent Authorities and Information) Regulations 2015
• Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer Disputes (Amendment) Regulations 2015

CTSI now operates as the competent authority auditing and approving ADR bodies, in all non-regulated sectors against the requirements of the legislation.

Bodies seeking approval to operate in regulated sectors will have to make an application to the appropriate competent authority. In the UK these are as follows:

• The Financial Conduct Authority
• Legal Services Board
• Civil Aviation Authority
• Gambling Commission
• Gas and Electricity Markets Authority
• Office of Communications (commonly known as Ofcom)
• Powys County Council, as the lead enforcement authority for the purposes of the Estate Agents Act 1979
