CTSI is pleased to announce that it will be working in partnership with the Food Standards Agency to deliver a programme of food standards sampling and food hygiene sampling for local authority practitioners in England in 2024.  Training will be in the form of webinars.

Food Standards Sampling

This webinar, in two parts,  will provide delegates with an overview of the legislation and of the legal and practical requirements in taking food samples.

It will discuss the types of analysis the Public Analyst can carry out once the sample has been received and how to action the Analysis results.

The training will use practical examples and discussion where appropriate.

At the conclusion of the training the delegates should have the knowledge to take samples, either formal or informal, which can be used in legal proceedings if appropriate.
The training can be used to evidence B5 (Sampling) of the FSA Competency Framework.

• a brief overview of the legislation relating to food sampling
• the nature of sampling legislation and why we take samples
• different sampling methodologies and techniques
• how to procure, store and transport a sample for analysis
• to read and understand results of analysis
• appropriately use results to decide on the appropriate practical enforcement action

Available to local authority practitioners in England at no charge.  Maximum of 2 delegates per local authority.

Food Hygiene Sampling

This webinar, in two parts, will provide delegates with an overview of the legislation and of the legal and practical requirements in taking food samples.

On completion of the course delegates will be able to:

  • understand the legislation and policy framework relating to food sampling
  • assess the adequacy of their authority’s arrangements for microbiological food and environmental sampling
  • demonstrate competence in microbiological food and environmental sampling (B5 Sampling and B8 Information Gathering in FSAs Competency Framework)
  • better understand sampling reports and advise businesses of the action they should take in response to less than satisfactory sampling result
