Rochdale Trading Standards Honoured with National Award
Posted 15/12/25
Rochdale Trading Standards has won the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) Intellectual Property Award at the CTSI Hero Awards, held on 2 December in the House of Lords.
The Intellectual Property Award recognises exemplary work to uphold intellectual property rights, often through identifying and addressing counterfeit goods.
Rochdale Trading Standards led three major operations that resulted in the seizure of more than £16m worth of counterfeit goods, including illegal drugs, unsafe cosmetics, and dangerous counterfeit toys, such as Labubu dolls. Their work has led to the disruption of organised criminal groups across the country.
The team also created a digital evidential recording system that is endorsed by the Anti-Counterfeiting Group and the Intellectual Property Office, and is recognised as national best practice.
CTSI Chief Executive, John Herriman, said: "It is wonderful to see this dedicated group of colleagues recognised for their incredible efforts to tackle counterfeiting in Rochdale. Their passion, commitment, and innovative practices have rightly received plaudits from both within the profession and externally.”
Gary Parkinson-Fraser, Head of Public Protection at Rochdale Borough Council said: “I'm incredibly proud that the council's public protection service and trading standards team has been recognised by a CTSI Hero Award. Their passion, dedication, and pioneering approach sees them get results each day. By tackling issues like counterfeiting and illegal trading the team is actively disrupting organised crime and, most importantly, keep our communities safe.”
Councillor Tricia Ayrton, the council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for climate change and environment, said: “The borough can be proud of the work by the council's trading standards team. To be recognised by this industry leading award validates the hard work and effort that the team delivers day in and day out to make our high streets and communities safer for our residents.”
