Budget statement
Posted 08/03/17
Leon Livermore, Chartered Trading Standards Institute chief executive, said:
“Today’s budget has some good news for consumers with plans to tackle unexpected fees likely to focus on subscription traps and wider issues around misleading and confusing contracts.
“We understand the government could introduce new powers, which will be extended to trading standards services, to fine the worst offenders.
“Trading standards is already working hard to tackle these issues but after staff numbers fell by over 50%, the government must address capacity if it expects new legislation to be enforced.”
