Consumer Code for New Homes joins Chartered Trading Standards Institute approved code family

Posted 28/03/17

The Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) recently welcomed their latest approved Consumer Code, the Consumer Code for New Homes.

The Consumer Code for New Homes ultimately is about raising standards of customer care and reducing consumer detriment. The Code has been established to ensure that best practice is followed by registered Developers in respect of the marketing, selling and purchasing of New Homes to consumers. The Code also sets expected standards for after sales customer care service.

Sarah Langley, General Manager of Consumer Code for New Homes said “We are thrilled to receive approval from the Chartered Trading Standards Institute. This external accreditation recognises the additional consumer protection measures within the Consumer Code for New Homes framework and our genuine desire to raise standards in the new build sector.”

“Last summer’s All Party Parliamentary Group report “More Homes, Fewer Complaints” again highlighted the need for substantial improvements in the quality of housebuilding and the service received by consumers in the UK when they are buying a New Home.”

”Purchasing a new home is likely to be the biggest purchase a consumer ever makes. At Consumer Code for New Homes, we want consumers to be reassured that they are protected and supported throughout the new home buying process, and beyond. ”

Leon Livermore, chief executive at the Chartered Trading Standards Institute, said: "When it comes to buying a new house, there can often be hurdles along the way and we can all be vulnerable consumers unaware of what rights we have.

"By becoming an approved code sponsor, Consumer Codes for New Homes has proved it is committed to driving up standards and raising overall consumer trust and we are pleased to welcome them on board."

Consumer Code for New Homes is the only CTSI approved Code in the new build sector that is independently run from the warranty bodies whom support the Code. It is currently supported by three warranty bodies, Global Home Warranties Ltd, Protek Group Ltd and Q Assure Build Ltd.
