Whirlpool issues recall for over 500,000 washing machines

Posted 17/12/19

The company announced that specific models of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines made between 2014 and 2018 are affected by a door lock defect which may cause the machine to catch fire. The corporation said it would begin replacing the units from January 2020.

Chief Executive of the Chartered Trading Standards Institute, Leon Livermore, said:

"Consumers should check the official product model list to see if their washing machine is part of the recall. Whirlpool has set up a helpline on 0800 316 1442 to assist affected consumers.

"This recall should once again illustrate the importance of registering their products with the manufacturer. We hope that Whirlpool undertakes a fair and efficient recall process for all of those affected and improve the safety of their product designs going forward."
