Responding effectively to doorstep crime can make a significant difference to protecting vulnerable residents and preventing further harm.

This practical course is designed to give officers the knowledge, confidence and skills needed to respond to doorstep crime complaints and live incidents, helping them make informed decisions and take effective action when it matters most.

 


About this Training Course


Who is this course suitable for:

This course is aimed at practitioners who are expected to respond to doorstep crime complaints and live incidents. It is particularly beneficial for officers who are new to this area of work, as well as those wishing to improve their skills and confidence to lead on doorstep crime responses.


This workshop focuses on understanding the impact of doorstep crime, developing practical response skills, building confidence in the use of enforcement powers, and improving investigative approaches to achieve better outcomes for consumers and communities.

This course will cover:

  • Why doorstep crime is so harmful
  • Why we should prioritise our response
  • Legislation overview
  • Carrying out a rapid response to a live incident
  • Use of powers and potential banana skins
  • Evidence gathering
  • Investigation techniques

Our Trainers/Presenters


Chris King and Gerry Wintrip

Chris and Gerry are highly experienced investigators and trainers, specialising in the prevention of doorstep crime, scams and consumer fraud. Chris has recently left his role as head of regulatory services at a West Midlands Council to specialise in providing training and consultancy services. Gerry has a long career, both as a Police Officer and then Trading Standards officer, specialising in the prosecution of rogue trading and similar offences against vulnerable residents.

Together they deliver engaging and interactive training to practitioners, which aims to provide knowledge, confidence and processes to deliver vital enforcement services at a local authority level.
