European Consumer Centres score a winning goal for consumers travelling to the 2014 World Cup

Posted 01/05/14

Will you accompany the Three Lions to the World Cup this summer? And if so, do you know what to expect as a consumer in Brazil?

Now you can leave the UK for a summer of football, safe in the knowledge that you are protected with the Consumer's Guide to the World Cup.

Produced by the network of European Consumer Centres in collaboration with PRO TESTE, the Brazilian Association of Consumer Defence, the guide informs you about your rights as a consumer in Brazil.

Andy Allen, UK ECC Director, said: "The football world is at fever pitch. The 2014 World Cup in Brazil will kick-off with the first whistle on 12 June and England will be there. Every England fan will be hoping for the best and will be holding their breath for a good result in each game.

"Roy Hodgson's side are set to get huge backing in the summer and FIFA has said that tens of thousands of fans are set to travel to Brazil. England fans are sixth in the league table for the number of tickets bought (51,000), so there is a large number of fans lucky enough to be travelling.

"They all need to take the European Consumer Centres' consumer guide with them. It summarises everything to enjoy a stay in Brazil with confidence."

The handy six-page booklet answers questions such as: What travel documents do you need ? What are your air passenger rights?  How can you ensure the quality of your hotel? How to reach the stadium? What should you watch out for when you go shopping or eat out? What payment methods are accepted by local merchants? How to avoid getting a hefty mobile phone bill ? What number do you call in case of emergency?

The guide also contains a match schedule and a list of some key vocabulary to help make fans understood. It is available in 11 languages of the EU.

You can download the brochure "2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil" from the publication's section of the UK ECC website.
